Shavkat Rakhmonov heads into UFC 310 with a 100% success rate.
Rakhmonov (18-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) faces Ian Machado Garry (15-0 MMA, 8-0 UFC) in a five-round welterweight bout in Saturday’s co-main event at T-Mobile Arena from Las Vegas.
Rakhmonov, who was originally scheduled to challenge welterweight champion Belal Muhammad at UFC 310, will look to cement his status as the next title challenger. In his last outing at UFC 296, Rakhmonov became the first to submit former title challenger Stephen Thompson.
“Kazakhstan fans have been waiting for someone to represent our country, and Kazakh fans want someone to show exciting and worthy fights in the UFC,” Rakhmonov said on UFC Countdown.
“All my fights are exciting for the fans. The reason I finish my fights is because I am a versatile fighter. Now I am ready to secure my place as the #1 contender for the UFC title.”
Rakhmonov faces former Kill Cliff FC training partner Machado Garry. While the Irishman traveled to seek knowledge in several places, Rakhmonov kept the Florida-based gym at home.
Despite his dominance so far, Rakhmonov still sees room for growth.
“I’ve been training at the Kill Cliff gym for about three years,” Rakhmonov said. “There are a lot of fighters at my level and the competition is tougher here. I think I have enough abilities, but I have to continue to improve them.
“This sport does not stop, it is important to continually develop your skills in all areas. My goal is to progress in all areas: technique, grappling and wrestling. In this weight category, I am a problem for everything the world.”
